NEGAUNEE -- Rowers are hoping for nice weather on Sunday in Negaunee as the 7th annual Upper Peninsula Community Rowing Club regatta kicks off on Teal Lake.
The rowing club plus teams from Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan University will be competing in eight person and four person rowing races. The races begin at 8 a.m. in front of the Lakeview School and then they'll row down to the Ishpeming end of Teal Lake, then row back.
Teams will race one at a time and compare times once all groups have finished.
"Rowing is an extremely fun sport and it's an all-body sport," said UPCRC President Sally Davis. "It's very kind on your joints for those of us who are a little older than the ones that are really, really competitive. And once you learn how to row and join our club, it's something you can do every day of the week."
During the races, the rowing club is also emphasizing water safety and will have four safety boats out on the lake.
