CRYSTAL FALLS -- The Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls broke ground Tuesday morning on a series of renovations.  The $9.1 million project is estimated to take 14 to 16 months to complete.

Medical staff are excited about the project and say they're addressing identified areas that were needed in the community.

"We had residents that were leaving Iron County to go elsewhere to get services.  This way they're able to stay home and not have to travel as far, especially family, when you need to visit," said Facility Administrator, Chester Pintarelli.

The project will consist of enhancements to their special needs unit, adding a short-term rehab unit, and making major upgrades and modifications to the 1976 construction of the building.
