DICKINSON COUNTY -- Monday was the state authority recount at Bay College West in Iron Mountain as officials verify the integrity of the containers, making sure the seal numbers match and have held since election day.
After the verification was complete, all the votes were counted and sorted for the appropriate candidate. The results for the recount were released on Tuesday morning.
According to the Dickinson County Clerk, LaCost gained two votes, while Richards gained three. The winner is still the same, with Richards getting 1,269 votes and LaCost receiving 1,227.
The results from the 108th State House District Democratic race, Delta County will still need to be recounted. The results from Dickinson County showed Gray gaining one vote and Nerat gaining three. Nerat is still leading in Dickinson County with 773 votes to Gray's 740.
"It is a hand recount," said Kristi Dougan, election specialist from the Michigan Bureau of Elections. "It is a very deliberate process. Once it's completed for the state race, we are accommodating the county prosecutor's race on the Republican side of the ballot, and essentially the process starts over."
The first recount is the State House 108th District race on the Democratic side of the ballot for Judy Nerat and Sharon Gray. Sharon Gray was declared the winner by 93 votes over Judy Nerat, who is challenging the results.
The second race being recounted is for Dickinson County Prosecutor on the Republican ballot.Lisa Richards was declared the winner with 31 votes over Julie LaCost, who is requesting the recount.
Officials expect to be completed with the recount early Monday evening. We will have more details as they become available.
