LUCE COUNTY (AP) -- More help is in the works for landowners affected by the Duck Lake Fire in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency on Monday announced that landowners affected by the fire in Luce County may sign up for the Emergency Forest Restoration Program. The application period runs through Oct. 9.

The restoration program is a cost-share assistance program that provides payments to eligible owners of nonindustrial private forest land to help restore land damaged by a natural disaster.

The Duck Lake wildfire started in May. It burned about 33 square miles.
