MARQUETTE -- Progress is being made on the new skate park in Marquette.
Spohn Ranch, a company from California, has been working at the site since August 18. The park is seven years in the making and will be located at the corner of Fair and Pine Streets in Marquette in front of the YMCA.
Five crew members have been building forms for the new ramps that were filled with cement Friday morning. Local volunteers and contractors have been working with the company that builds skate parks across the United States.
"Generally we like to keep some revenue in the city, so we'll hire on some flat work guys or some guys that do tilt work or walls and strip and finish," said Anthony Zavala of Spohn Ranch.
The crew expects to wrap up work in two weeks. The park will then open up to skaters, with more additions coming next year. The project was made possible through financial support from the community, including over $150,000 from local businesses.
