IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Dickinson County Sheriff's Department will have a new millage on this upcoming November ballot for the operations and equipment of their 911 center.

The county board approved the .4 mills over three years for upgrades to their current dispatch center. The department was accustomed to receiving more funding from telephone surcharges, but years ago those charges were cut almost 50 percent.

"Our equipment is where we really suffer," said Dickinson County Sheriff Scott Celello. "That equipment was installed in 1991 and we're not sure how many more years we're going to get out of that."

Currently the Dickinson County Sheriffs Department takes approximately $300,000 out of their budget annually to fund the 911 center. Taxes added would vary according to house value.
