MARQUETTE -- It's day two of the annual Marquette Kennel Club dog show at Lakeview Arena in Marquette.
Around 350 dogs competed Saturday. Dogs compete in the same events as Friday, but with different judges. Training these dogs involves an immense workload and time spent with the dog. Nicole King trains 17 dogs in Indiana. Sparky is a three-and-a-half-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier whose owner lives in Texas. Sparky won best in breed.
King says the most important part of training is the strong bond between dog and handler.
"It's rewarding, more so for my owners, because the dog and I have achieved something together as a team for them and myself," said Nicole King, all breed handler. "It's very hard because once they retire, then we have to send them home, and we don't usually see them too much after that."
The dog show is spectator friendly and continues Sunday.
