MARQUETTE -- Marquette's South Beach is closed to swimming due to high levels of bacteria, according to Marquette officials.

Authorities say that the beach is closed to swimming until further notice due to E. coli contamination. Marquette's city beaches traditionally close after the Labor Day holiday, but can be opened at the city's discretion as the weather permits.

City officials say that feces from geese and seagulls are the major contributing factor to the high levels of E. coli.
