MARQUETTE -- The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees convened for a short meeting on Thursday morning to discuss a land ownership issue.

Back in 1979 the university sold some land along Kaye Avenue to Marquette General Health System so they could build the Nelberg building. The sale included an agreement that if MGH was to one day sell the property, NMU would have the first right to it.

That land would be sold to Duke LifePoint if their purchase of MGH is approved by the State of Michigan Attorney General. At Thursday's meeting, the NMU board agreed that they do not want to re-purchase the property.

If the hospital sale goes through, Duke LifePoint will own the property that is next to the NMU University Center.
