TAMPA, FL -- It was day one for speakers addressing the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida Tuesday.
The U.P.'s First District Representative, Congressman Dan Benishek, spoke Tuesday afternoon.
Benishek introduced himself as a doctor from Iron River. He says he had no intention of going into politics, but two years ago, that changed. He said he was inspired to run for office by what he believes was uncontrolled spending in Washington, D.C.
"I know our nation is facing enormous challenges. Unemployment is far too high. We have a nearly $16 trillion in debt. It's hard for Michigan families to make ends meet," said Benishek.
The Republican Convention will wrap up Thursday.
