Harley Owner's Group has raised $65,757 for the health camp
BIG BAY -- Bay Ciff Health Camp got a major gift Wednesday night, all from some bikers who went the extra mile to to help some summer campers.
This year, Harley Owner's Group has raised $65,757 for the health camp. Wednesday night, they revved their engines through the Bay Cliff to celebrate.
"It makes me feel like I'm doing something, doing something good. You don't get a chance to do good things too often. That's it. Like I say, if I ride up there and these kids know us, they just love us," said ticket chairman Joe Kerekes.
For the past 26 years, the bikers have a bike raffle and bike show, all to raise money for the camp. Over the years, they've raised $1,232,000.
And their efforts don't go unappreciated.
"Well, this is what, my fifth year, and they just do a wonderful job. And they raise money for the unit, Bay Cliff, and they put out a lot for that. And they really put some good time into it," said camper David L. Erickson.
On Wednesday evening, they presented the check to Camp Director Tim Bennett, who, afterward, put on a barbecue dinner for the bikers.
"We do it because it's home, it hits home. And just to see the smile on their faces, you know, they think we're heroes. Once you do it, you're hooked because every year you go back there and most of the kids are back. It hits you in the heart, if you know what I mean," Kerekes added.
