NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP -- A vehicle with an oversized load tore down electrical lines on M-35 Tuesday afternoon.

At around 1:40 p.m. a vehicle was traveling south on M-35 when it snagged low-hanging electrical lines.   Two wooden power poles broke in half causing high voltage power lines to drape over the trailer.  The driver was temporarily trapped in his cab due to the arcing power lines, but was not injured.

Power was knocked out for area residents and traffic was rerouted around the scene for more than five hours.  The carrier was transporting wind generator equipment.

Sheriff's deputies and the Negaunee Township Fire Department were on the scene most of the afternoon.  The investigation continues.
