ESCANABA -- Delta County Search and Rescue will be holding a fundraiser on September 6 at the Rapid River Lions Club.

Officials are hoping to raise at least $10,000, which will be used for survival equipment to keep the members safe during their rescue operations. They aren't able to get county funding like they used to.

Their training isn't paid for, so their equipment and training has to be self-funded.

Doors for the fundraiser open at 4 p.m., and dinner is from 5 to 7 p.m. Organizers say there's a special incentive.

"One of our biggest raffle prizes is going to be a Marlin .45-70 guide gun, and our second prize is a Wilderness Pungo 120 kayak," said Fundraiser Chairman Peter DeHaan.

The search and rescue fundraiser raised almost $7,500 last year.
