HARVEY -- Community members that attended a block party in Harvey went home with a lot more than they came with.

Like every block party, there was food, music and games. It was organized by the Silver Creek Church. But many parents and children also lined up to get some free school supplies. The Chocolay Police and Fire gave away riding helmets, and something new this year, a clothing drive.

"Families spend a lot of money as kids get ready to get back to school and, of course, everybody knows that this point in time, not everybody has enough," said Pastor Kevin Taylor. "So we thought what a great way to help families by getting clothing that's gently used and giving it away."

Organizers expected about 1,000 people at the party.
