HOUGHTON -- Starting on Thursday, Michigan is kicking off its new campaign against drunk drivers.
It's called Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, and law enforcement agencies in 26 counties across the state were given additional funding for the next two weeks for extra patrol. Officials say from now until Labor Day, they will be cracking down on drunk drivers.
"Obviously they can injure or kill innocent people, they can hurt themselves," said Lynn Sutfin of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety. "It's against the law to be out there driving drunk, and what we want to do is make sure that everybody has a safe holiday."
According to the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, last year 14 people died in alcohol-related crashes in the Upper Peninsula. Officials say if you plan on drinking, remember to plan ahead and choose a designated, sober driver or take a cab home.
