MARQUETTE -- The Beacon House of Marquette received more support this weekend from bikers. And to coincide with Ore to Shore, the organization kicked off its first-ever Roar to Shore event.

Around 35 motorcycle riders showed up to support the organization. The Beacon House needs $350,000 per year to operate, and organizers say every bit helps.

"We have to do a number of different kinds of fundraisers because everybody doesn't golf, everybody doesn't ride a bicycle," said Mary Dowling, Director of Beacon House.

"So we've come up with some different, innovative ideas to reach the different audiences who are actually telling us they want to support Beacon House. So we're actually responding to a group that said they'd really love to help out, and we're so grateful for that."

The riders started their route in Marquette, heading to several stops including Munising, Chatham, Little Lake, and ending in Gwinn.
