SANDS TWP -- The Marquette County Fair is ongoing in Sands Township, and it's doing better than ever.
The fair had a record-breaking 3,000 visitors on opening day. As of Saturday afternoon, total attendance was over 8,000 people. Much of the high attendance is attributed to the higher number of ride and vendors this year as well as the return of motocross. Other crowds flocked to the livestock auctions where many young men and women from the 4-H Club sold their animals.
The 4-H Club also has a tent of their own catering to small children.
"We've never been to the Marquette County Fair," said Tasha Stielstra, a visitor from McMillan. "We have a two-and-a-half-year-old who came to see mud trucks today, so that's what we're waiting for, and his dream was to see monster mud trucks so that's why we came over."
The mud drags attracted hundreds of others as well. Organizers expects a record-breaking 12,000 total attendance by the end of the fair on Sunday.
