Swimmer rescued in Grand Marais

GRAND MARAIS -- A swimmer was rescued in Lake Superior near Grand Marais Friday evening.

According to the Alger County Sheriff's Department he was jumping off the pier into the water in Grand Marais. Witnesses lost sight of him and called for help.

Several agencies responded. The swimmer was located and brought to shore. He was transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital. His name and condition have not been released.
