ISHPEMING -- Demolition is underway at Birchview Elementary School in Ishpeming.

Due to a lack of space, what used to be the stage in the gym has been used as a library, but now construction workers are remodeling it into a full-sized library.

There's going to be a new window in the facility, and the floor level is coming down.

"Next year we'll be putting in the floor, the block wall, the divider wall, and then from there it's going to be paint, floors, and cabinets," said A & F owner Randy Alderton.

It's part of a project that's costing around $93,000. The construction is scheduled to take six to eight weeks to finish, but officials are hoping it's done before school starts in September.
