HOUGHTON -- Parking deck repairs are at the halfway point in Houghton.

City council members received an update on the deck at Wednesday night's meeting. Repairs on the first level entry ramp are finished, and now work is being done on the Sheldon Avenue entrance.

Dee Stadium is also under repair. Leaks in the ceiling will have to be fixed, and in the coming months, historical pictures will hang from the ceiling. City Manager Scott MacInnes also updated the council on the city's master plan during the meeting.

"We did have a number of discussions at the planning commission meeting," said MacInnes. "We talked about population trends, different zoning issues, and density in different parts of town. There are some vacant lots, so what's our vision for that? Should there be zoning changes there?"

Water and sewage construction continues on Bridge Street, and the council made history Wednesday night by approving Angela Tomasi as the first female firefighter in the City of Houghton.
