MARQUETTE TWP -- Officials from Marquette Township say nothing brings a community together like a community outing.

The second annual softball event at Lions Field brought dozens of people to the park. The community has enjoyed this new field since last year and Saturday's profits will go toward a batting cage at the park.

"One of our big goals has been to pull the community together to find some central rallying points and one of those was to come up with an idea of an event so that we can bring all the neighbors out together to come out and find out why Marquette Township is such a great place to live, work and play," said Dennis Liimatta, Marquette Township's supervisor.

Two of the first teams on the field were alumni from Marquette and Negaunee. The event is expected to last two days next year.
