ROCK RIVER TOWNSHIP -- The annual Alger County Fair kicked off Friday morning at the Rock River Township Fairgrounds.
Vendors and the county set up their booths for the fair, which is expected to draw around 3,000 people this weekend.
The first event on Friday morning was a youth livestock competition. Organizers of the fair say it's a great opportunity to showcase the youth's involvement in agriculture.
"It's just a great place for those youth to come and participate with other kids of similar interests," said Fair President Paul Naasz. "And the other thing is to try and encourage the public to come and get out and see what's happening in the rural communities as far as agriculture is concerned."
Tickets are $2 for an adult and $1 for kids ages six to 12. The fair runs until 5 p.m. on Sunday.
