ALGER COUNTY -- The Alger County man accused of running over his girlfriend last June stood trial Tuesday.

Day one of the Thomas Murdock trial got underway in Alger County Circuit Court. Murdock is being charged with involuntary manslaughter of his girlfriend Lisa Hardwick.

In opening statements, attorneys explained that the two had an argument, and Hardwick got out of the vehicle before Murdock allegedly ran her over. Both sides agree that the action was unintentional.

The prosecution questioned five witnesses about the night of Hardwick's death.

Murdock is also charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.

The trial continues Wednesday.
