MARINETTE COUNTY -- Federal prosecutors have charged five people with growing hundreds of marijuana plants in Marinette County.

Brian Magana, Javier Magana, Manuel Mendoza, Marco Magana and Maria Hilda Magana-Mendoza, all of Green Bay, could face up to life in prison and $10 million in fines if convicted. According to court documents, the group grew marijuana on their two properties in the towns of Athelstane and Middle Inlet in central Marinette County.

Police observed more than 1,000 plants at each location.

Investigators identified the group by using property records and tracing vehicles seen coming and going from the growing sites. They were charged last week.
