MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Area Public School Board reviewed an 18 mill renewal for 20 years that provides a third of the school's annual operating expenses.

The board saw a presentation that highlighted how the money is used. The millage renewal is not likely to come up on the ballot in November.

Board members say they still need to review the proposal. They stressed that it is not an increase, but only a renewal.

"When it was first put in place in 1994, it was established as a 20 year mill, so it's up for renewal this next year," said School Board President Scott Brogan. "So at some point over the next year, and probably the year 2013, at some point the district will be coming to the public and asking for a renewal of that operating millage."

The board also discussed the Great Start Readiness program and the possibility of renting the Kaufman Auditorium courtyard for weddings.
