CHIPPEWA COUNTY -- A large section of M-28 was closed for seven hours on Wednesday after a crash involving a semi and three cars, according to the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies received a call at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday after a semi carrying coiled steel hit a car from behind, sending it head-on into an SUV. The semi then overturned, spilling its load of steel, which bounded along M-28, hitting a van.
Four people were taken to War Memorial Hospital, but have been treated and released.
Police said that the road was closed until 11 p.m. as crews repaired major damage to the surface of M-28, removed vehicles from the scene, and performed clean up of the fuel spilled by the semi.
