SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY -- Rescuers in Schoolcraft County were kept busy on Wednesday after two separate cases of missing individuals were called in.
The first, reported at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, involved a six year old. The child, visiting family at a residence on the west shore of Indian Lake, was found about an hour later, a quarter mile away in a wooded area. He reportedly walked away while playing in the front yard.
Then, just before 8 p.m. Wednesday night, the deputies from the Schoolcraft County Sheriff's Department were called to Michibay Road in Doyle Township. An 88-year-old man had wandered from his home and had not been seen for about three hours, according to the police.
The man was discovered by a retired deputy and safely returned about a half hour later.
"I'm very pleased with how our departments work quickly and efficiently when these situations arise," said Schoolcraft County Sheriff Grant Harris. "It's important to remember that time matters in these cases, and the sooner you report the incident, the better we can handle it. If something seems out of the ordinary, don't hesitate to call 911 and report it immediately. We want people to know that we are here to take these types of calls anytime."
