CHAMPION -- A new playground at Van Riper State Park will soon become a reality thanks to a local business.
A. Lindberg and Sons from Marquette saw our story last week about the need for a contractor to help finish the project at the Western Marquette County campground.
The Friends of Van Riper State Park organization purchased new playground equipment last November, but they couldn't put it in the ground until a hole was dug for wood chips.
Wednesday morning, a crew from Lindberg donated their labor and machinery to get the installation process underway. Julie Hosang, a campground host and member of the Friends of Van Riper Board, is very thankful.
"We have no handicap stuff, and we will now," said Hosang. "We have no baby swings; we'll have a baby swing. So this will make every child who comes here have something that they can do and enjoy in this park. We're just overwhelmed with how Lindberg has just come in here and just supported us so much."
The new playground should be open in about a month.
