ESCANABA -- The schooner, "Inland Seas," is a teaching ship that arrived in Escanaba Monday.  It'll be one of the attractions during Friday's Maritime Festival.

It came from Sutton's Bay, which is northwest of Traverse City.

Thursday, a group from Bay Pines, which is a home for troubled youth, hopped on board to set sail and learn about Great Lakes ecology.

Officials say they hope students gain a better appreciation of the Great Lakes.

"The more people know about the ecology and the issues facing the Great Lakes, the better stewards they can be.  And that's our primary goal with Inland Seas:  just to make people more aware of the issues," said Inland Seas Education Director, Dr. Timothy Davis.

From 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, the crew will give dockside tours of the ship.
