ISHPEMING -- Dozens of people took advantage of the beautiful weather Sunday with a horseback ride in Ishpeming.

For the past three years Heritage Hills Horseback Riding has offered tourists and locals a unique look at the historical land between Ishpeming and Negaunee.

What was once an old golf course is now part of 700 acres of woods and fields, an ideal place for a mountain bike ride or a horseback ride.

"I enjoy being around horses but don't have the time to get my own, so it's really nice to get out and ride," said Pam Johnson, a horseback rider.

"We're different from other riding stables in Wisconsin," said Joni Gleason, co-owner of Heritage Hills. "Our horses aren't robots, (walking) nose to tail ride. The riders are active riders, and we go throughout all kinds of terrain."

This fall Heritage Hills plans to open a new trail through an apple orchard that is is expected to be a big hit for both the riders and the horses.
