MICHIGAMME TOWNSHIP -- Residents in Michigamme Township were hungry to help out first responders in the area Saturday.

The Michigamme, Spurr EMS First Responders held their first annual croatian chicken dinner at Michigamme Township Park.

A quarter chicken sold for $8 and a half chicken for $12.

The volunteer EMS group will use that money to help buy new equipment for their first responder vehicle.

Organizers of the fundraiser were thrilled with the high turn out.

"This is just such a great event, it seems like everybody came out here," said Colleen Maki, organizer of the event and EMS volunteer. "We sold or we pre-sold about 350 tickets. That numbers is just great for Michigamme, being that we're such a small town."

The 13 member group hopes to raise $1,000 with Saturday's fundraiser.

The Croatian Village company provided and cooked the chicken.
