MARQUETTE -- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is expanding the use of its recreation passports.
The passport currently covers all state parks in Michigan, but this year they are including recreational areas like Wetmore Landing. The DNR is using this year as an "educational year" for the recreational areas. You will not receive a citation if you don't have a passport yet.
"People will see new signs up saying 'recreation passport needed here' at places like Wetmore Landing, Little Presque Isle, Harlow Lake Cabins, and Blueberry Ridge Pathway. Those are just a few of the more popular areas in the Marquette area," said Debbie Munson-Badini of the DNR. "But if you're seeing these signs, what it means is you do need the recreation passport now."
You can purchase a passport when you renew your vehicle registration for $10. If you have missed the opportunity to get yours this year, you can also pick one up at the DNR office in Marquette.
