HANCOCK -- The summer heat can cause your body to lose a lot of water so what are some of the best ways for you to stay hydrated?

Many people look for different ways to stay cool like mother of two Sierra Bishop who likes to spend time at the beach.

"We take them to the beach to cool off and then we give them water and fruit, Capri Sun, Gatorade, Popsicles," said Bishop.

Registered dietitian, for Asprius Keweenaw, Beth Cook says it's very important to stay hydrated to keep your body from overheating.

"The heat and being physically active in the summer can cause us to sweat more and when you're losing fluids and electrolytes it can put pressure on your heart and muscles so we just encourage you to drink lots of fluids preferably low calorie ones like water,” said Cook.

Water isn't the only thing that will keep you hydrated.

"High fluid foods like fruits and vegetables so going for your watermelon and berries and vegetables as well. They’re also low in calories and high in fibers so those are always good picnic choices," said Cook.

If you’re planning on having any alcoholic beverages this coming holiday experts say drink in moderation.

“If you drink too many of them it can cause dehydration so I encourage people to have a glass of water in between alcoholic beverages,” Cook said.
