MARQUETTE -- Criterium bike racing returns to Downtown Marquette Friday evening, and police are reminding motorists of road closures.

Around noon Friday, crews will block off Washington Street between Front Street and Third Street. At 3 p.m., Main Street will shut down, and then at 5:30 p.m., Front and Third Streets will close.

Captain Blake Rieboldt from the Marquette Police Department said detours around the closures will be well marked.

"It shouldn't be a major problem," said Rieboldt. "There is plenty of parking in the downtown area that will give people that want to access the race that opportunity."

Captain Rieboldt reminds spectators to adhere to sidewalks when getting around downtown during the race.

The first Speed Jam race starts at 6 p.m. with a kids' event. The serious racers hit the streets at 8:30 p.m.
