MARQUETTE -- A melting pot of Scandinavian cultures came together to celebrate the summer Saturday. The annual Scandinavian Midsummer Festival at Presque Isle in Marquette drew quite a crowd.
An opening ceremony outlined anthems from Finland, Sweden and the United States. Hundreds of different trinkets were on sale, from jewelry to home decor, and baked goods.
Organizers say it's a good way to socialize and get to know the cultures.
"I think there's a lot of Scandinavian people here, especially the Finnish people and the Swedish, and they just love to come and they have a grand day. It's a wonderful setting here at Presque Isle. You couldn't ask for a better setting," said Edith Prosen, one of the festival organizers.
The event was free and lasted all day.
