The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain hosted an open house for its new outpatient clinic

IRON MT. -- The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain hosted an open house for its new outpatient clinic.

The open house Thursday welcomed veterans, their families and the general public for a tour and information on VA health care services and benefits. One of the highlights: the new clinic's telehealth services providing convenience for veterans.

"Telehealth care services is really using the latest audio video technology to what, I like to say, is bringing care closer to veterans," said Brad Nelson, a public affairs officer.

Telehealth technology lowers health care costs and reduces travel time for patients. Nelson says some women don't feel comfortable at a clinic that treats male patients, so now there's a new women's wellness center to keep patients from feeling intimidated.
