KINGSFORD -- The Kingsford City Council made the decision Monday night to keep the current pit bull ordinance in effect.

Since May, a committee has been investigating the history of the ordinance and complaints by residents about attacks which led to the decision.  Residents took turns expressing dissatisfaction with the result on Monday night.

Council members say they sympathize with dog owners, but believe this is in the best interest of the city residents.

"I think the ordinance could possibly be revised," said Kingsford Mayor Michael Flaminio.  "But at this point certainly not in favor of rescinding it until we have a better one in place."

Flaminio also said he wants harsher fines for residents who violate the vicious and dangerous dog ordinance.
