MARQUETTE -- A federal court case against two Upper Michigan men involving more than 4,000 pounds of explosives got underway Monday in Marquette.

The prosecution called witnesses against 64-year-old John Francis Lechner of Sault Ste. Marie and 53-year-old Ken Kassab of Brimley.  Lechner is accused of buying, hiding, and transporting more than 4,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil at his Chippewa County farm.  He was arrested last September.

Kassab is charged with illegal transportation of explosives.  Both men had initially entered guilty pleas, which they later withdrew.

The trial is expected to continue Tuesday.
