IRON MOUNTAIN -- Iron Mountain's City Council is taking steps to regulate when fireworks can be set off.  Governor Rick Snyder recently relaxed the restrictions on certain fireworks that had previously been illegal. The Iron Mountain City Council approved a firework ordinance prohibiting residents from setting them off year-round.

The ordinance won't prevent the use of fireworks during holidays.  Council members passed the ordinance because they say fireworks are noisy, make a mess, and could potentially be dangerous.

"Safety issues are much less then they would be if we allowed them 365 days out of the year," said Iron Mountain Mayor, Bruce Rosen.

The ordinance will be in effect by July 4, and the Iron Mountain Police will begin enforcing it on July 6.
