MARQUETTE -- Sunday was National Cancer Survivors Day, and Marquette General Hospital had a celebration with its staff and cancer survivors.  Many gathered at MGH for food and drink before hearing speeches from staff members and cancer survivors.

Afterwards the group planted a burning bush in front of the hospital to commemorate the day.  But there was even more to celebrate.  MGH officially announced that its cancer center has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers for top quality treatment and facilities.

"I think it's a wonderful accomplishment for the Marquette Cancer Center, and I hope that our patients are proud of the care they receive right here at home," said Dr. Amy Weise, Medical Director of the Center.

MGH is now the first hospital in the U.P. to earn this accreditation and is only one of eleven in Michigan.
