MARQUETTE -- A service Friday at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette celebrated one man's journey through the Catholic church.

As of Friday afternoon, Chuck Gervasio is now an ordained permanent deacon for the Diocese of Marquette. He has spent the past eight years focusing on liturgical studies, when he wanted to be more involved with the Catholic church. Gervasio has spent most of his career as a radio broadcaster, but now, he's dedicating part of his life to his religion.

"The diaconate is a service ministry," said Gervasio. "It is a challenge to me as a deacon to be there to help to serve the other parish people and the other members of our parish community to encourage them."

Gervasio will be serving at his home church, Our Lady of Peace parish in Ironwood.
