NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP -- If you've been thinking about adopting a cat, now is the time to do it.

The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter, or UPAWS, has a special promotion all month.

People looking to adopt a feline friend get to choose the price they want to pay, from one dollar and up. Spay or neuter surgery and vaccines are also included.

Ann Brownell from UPAWS estimated that they have 65 cats in their shelter, along with several more in foster homes.

"Normally cats are $115 on the average to adopt, so it is an absolutely wonderful value and you can get a lifetime of love," said Brownell. "If you want a kitten, we don't forget kittens either. Four months and younger, they will be $55. Again, they're normally $115."

The shelter is open seven days a week from noon to 4 p.m.

Visit the UPAWS website to see what cats are available: www.upaws.org
