PICTURED ROCKS -- Two kayakers trapped on a rocky outcropping near Shipwreck Point were rescued Sunday afternoon.
According to the Alger County Sheriff's Office, it happened around 3:20 p.m. east of Miners Castle. Crews rescued Jeffrey Beke, 37, and Heather Orszula, 37, both of Grand Rapids. The couple were on Lake Superior when it became rough, forcing them to seek safety on nearby rocks. Park rangers and the United States Coast Guard assisted in the rescue.
Law enforcement reminds everyone to be cautious when kayaking along the rocks, use sea kayaks, have formal training and check weather conditions before going out.
