MARQUETTE -- A Canadian man was sentenced to federal prison in Marquette County Federal Court Friday for attempting to re-enter the United States.
Daniel H. Sundstrom, 50, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for attempting to re-enter the United States after being removed from the country, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced Friday. In addition to the prison term, Sundstrom was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
Sundstrom pleaded guilty to a federal indictment charging him with re-entry by a removed alien on December 21, 2011. The charge stemmed from Sundstrom's attempt to enter the United States at the Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Port of Entry on October 4, 2011. Sundstrom had been removed in 2010 following his conviction in California of attempted sexual battery involving a 15-year-old girl. He was prohibited from entering the country for ten years.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection investigated the case.
