There's quite a bit to talk about this weekend as far as weather is concerned. The good news is that for Saturday, winds are looking to be lighter, temperatures a bit less warm, and, most importantly, there is some rain in the forecast. That means that weather conditions may help limit the spread of the Duck Lake and Seney Wildfires.

Have you seen the pictures that the National Weather Service has been posting of the fires? They have a very interesting perspective. You can see more here that are updated periodically. The NWS also offers detailed fire weather forecasts.

As a weak cold front passed from the north overnight, winds have shifted to a more easterly flow for now with high pressure . They should be around 6 to 12 mph. Highs will mostly be in the 70s, but it may be warmer in the western interior. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy as clouds move in from the west. With those clouds come a chance of rain in the afternoon.

As low pressure approaches the UP, chances of rain increase. Rain is looking very likely for Saturday evening and overnight. It will not likely be enough to put much of a stop to these large wildfires, but anything helps. Lows will be around 50. Winds will remain around 5 to 10 mph out of the east.

A warm front will pass the UP for Sunday. Temperatures will climb to the low 80s for most of the UP, but as always, with a south wind, it will be cooler in the eastern counties, especially near Lake Michigan. They should still reach well into the 60s. Winds will not be strong. Skies and rain will clear up a bit in the afternoon, but light rain is still likely in the daytime.

As that light south wind persists overnight, Sunday's lows will only fall in the upper 50s to mid 60s. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of some lingering rain.

Over the course of the whole weekend, most of the UP will see a half inch of rain or perhaps more.

Memorial Day Monday will see more warm temperatures in the low 80s, but more rain too. As the low pressure center barrels down on the upper Great Lakes, a cold front will pass and possibly bring more severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk of severe weather for the Day 3 Convective Outlook.

The rest of the week looks to have cooler and more seasonal temperatures with fewer chances of rain.

On a note of interest, hurricane season is off to an early start this year. Check out what's going on with Subtropical Storm Beryl.
