L'ANSE -- Two people are recovering from injuries and their home is a total loss after an early morning fire on Thursday.

According to the L'Anse Fire Department, the blaze was reported at 2:50 in the morning at 725 Kemp Street.  When they arrived the building was fully engulfed in flames.

The couple, Deb and Chris Kahler, was alerted by smoke detectors.  The wife, Chris, had been sleeping upstairs and was forced to jump from the second story to escape the blaze.  She suffered burns in addition to injuries from the fall.

Deb Kahler got downstairs, but was not able to get back upstairs to his wife.  He did manage to escape, but sustained burns and smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
