SENEY -- The wildfire at the Seney National Wildlife Refuge has burned 2,600 acres of land, according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

On Wednesday evening, crews were working to contain the fire, but several spot fires crossed the containment line at Pine Creek.  On Thursday, crews plan to continue work to suppress and control the fire west of Pine Creek using Marshmasters and a helicopter.

The Department of Natural Resources plans on burning out state lands between M-28 and the north Seney Refuge boundaries on Thursday.  This would involve closing M-28 completely while crews light the fire along the highway.

We will provide information regarding the fire and the closure of M-28 as it comes in.  You can follow the closure status of highway M-28 here.
