HOMESTEAD -- On Tuesday afternoon, the Florence County Sheriff's Department received a call from a person driving by 1641 County Highway U of a fully involved structure fire.

The structure was a single family dwelling in the Town of Homestead.  It was unknown at the time of the fire whether anyone was at home.  Firefighters, in the process of searching the home, located one male occupant deceased in the home.

The occupant was identified as Vance Friberg, one of the owners of the home.  The Wisconsin State Fire Marshal's office was called in to investigate the fire.

Numerous units responded to bring water to the rural location.  Two firefighters received minor injuries while fighting the fire.

According to the sheriff's office, the woods next to the home and barn also caught fire but was extinguished by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The fire is still under investigation.
