MARQUETTE -- The Catholic Diocese of Marquette is participating in a lawsuit against the federal government over the new health care law.  The diocese says the mandate intrudes on religious rights by forcing the organization to provide health coverage for contraception and sterilization procedures.  Dozens of Catholic groups around the country are filing similar lawsuits.

"We're at a decisive moment as a culture, as a society, as a country, and certainly for us as a church, and where we go from here is really going to determine, seriously, the kind of future that we are going to have," said Bishop Alexander Sample of the Marquette Catholic Diocese.

Bishop Sample also said he hopes for a speedy resolution to this issue.  If the Diocese doesn't comply with the new health care mandate, they could face substantial financial penalties.
