ESCANABA -- About $17 million was spent on Escanaba High School's ongoing construction project, and officials say it's nearing the home stretch.  The project is making the school safer by adding control systems on the doors.  It's also making the facility more energy efficient through new windows.  There are more lockers and increased classroom technology.

The high school will have the addition of seventh graders at the school this fall.

"I think it's going to be a better environment for the high school students of Escanaba. It's going to be a safer environment, and it gives our teachers the tools to help prepare our kids for the 21st century education they need to get right now," said high school principal, Doug Leisenring.

The last part of the construction includes landscaping projects and finishing kitchen renovations this summer.
